Do you remember TikTok Music, the streaming platform launched by TikTok in July 2023? It is set to be shut down soon. According to an official announcement on its website, TikTok Music will cease operations on November 28, 2024.
TikTok Music was never made widely available, only launching in select regions such as Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Indonesia. Despite its limited availability, the subscription-based music service failed to attract much attention and struggled to gain users.
Users will still be able to access TikTok Music until November 28, 2024, but after that date, subscription renewals will be automatically canceled. Additionally, users can request refunds before the deadline.
TikTok Music was created to compete with well-established music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. It was built on a platform called Resso, which was acquired by ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, in 2019. The goal was to leverage TikTok’s massive popularity and its influence on current music trends.
Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, stated that the company now plans to focus on collaborating with existing music streaming services rather than competing against them. Recently, TikTok introduced the “Add to Music” feature, allowing users to directly access their playlists on platforms like Apple Music, Amazon Music, or Spotify.
