Apple has just launched the latest 24-inch iMac, powered by the new M4 chip, promising faster and more efficient performance. This release marks a significant upgrade following last year’s iMac model with the M3 chip.
The new iMac’s M4 chipset can be configured with up to a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. With this setup, Apple claims the iMac is up to 1.7 times faster for daily tasks and 2.1 times faster for demanding activities like photo editing and gaming compared to the previous M1 model. Interestingly, Apple has chosen to compare it to the M1 chip rather than the more recent M3.
Another improvement is the increased base RAM, now starting at 16GB, up from 8GB in the previous model. The iMac can also be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD storage.
Apple has included a 12-megapixel front camera with Center Stage, keeping users centered in the frame. There’s also a Desk View feature, which displays both the user’s face and a top-down view of their workspace—ideal for online meetings or presentations.
While the 24-inch iMac’s core design remains largely unchanged, it now comes in fresh colors like green, yellow, orange, and more. Additionally, the nano-texture display option, which reduces glare, is now available for this model, a feature previously exclusive to the 27-inch Intel-based iMac.
The device also features Thunderbolt 4 support on all USB-C ports for the 10-core M4 model, while the base model with the 8-core M4 chip has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, offering enhanced connectivity flexibility.
Apple will offer the 24-inch iMac with the M4 chipset at a starting price of USD 1,299 in the United States. It’s anticipated that the Cupertino giant will unveil other Mac computers soon, with the Mac Mini likely among them.
