Apple Launches New MacBook Pro, Now Equipped with M4 Chipset

Following updates to the iMac and Mac mini, Apple has unveiled the latest line of MacBook Pro models, now powered by the M4 chipset. These new MacBook Pros come in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes, featuring three chipset variants: M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max, marking the first appearance of these powerful options.

The M4 Pro and M4 Max chips bring substantial performance upgrades. Standard memory now starts at 24GB, up from 18GB on previous models, and both feature three Thunderbolt 5 ports capable of speeds up to 120 Gb/s.

These new Thunderbolt 5 ports support native DisplayPort 2.1 output via USB-C, with full USB4 compatibility and PCIe 4.0 support, allowing faster data access for storage devices and peripherals.

The M4 Pro chip includes a 14-core CPU with a configuration of 10 performance cores and four efficiency cores, alongside a GPU with up to 20 cores. Memory bandwidth is improved by up to 75% over the previous generation, offering triple the performance of the M1 Pro.

On the other hand, the M4 Max chip includes up to a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, delivering memory bandwidth of up to half a terabyte per second. With a Neural Engine three times faster than that of the M1 Max, this chip provides 3.5 times the speed of its predecessor.

Apart from the chipset, other specifications remain consistent. The MacBook Pro still boasts a Liquid Retina XDR display, with a resolution of 3,024 x 1,964 pixels for the 14-inch model and 3,456 x 2,234 pixels for the 16-inch version. Both displays feature a 120Hz refresh rate, True Tone, and a P3 color gamut.

Apple is also offering a nano-texture display option for the new MacBook Pro lineup, similar to the 2024 iPad Pro. This option reduces glare and provides peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits for SDR content and 1,600 nits for HDR content.

Battery life for the 14-inch model with the M4 Pro is rated at up to 22 hours, while the M4 Max can last up to 18 hours. For the 16-inch model, the M4 Pro variant offers up to 24 hours, and the M4 Max variant can reach up to 21 hours.

Both models are also equipped with an SDXC slot, MagSafe 3 port, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. The new MacBook Pro is available in space black and silver. The base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip starts at $1,599, featuring 16GB of RAM. Upgrading to the M4 Pro costs an additional $400.

For the most advanced M4 Max model, prices start at $3,199, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro starts at $2,499, and the M4 Max version begins at $3,499.
