Twitter X Stirs Controversy by Changing Blocking Rules: What’s New?

Recently, the online world has been buzzing with news that Twitter X is changing its blocking policy. One of the most notable changes is that users who have been blocked can still view public posts from the accounts that blocked them. Surprising, right?

What’s Changing in Twitter X’s Blocking Rules?

The information about Twitter X’s update to its blocking feature comes directly from a tweet by their Engineering team. The tweet revealed that the platform is planning to overhaul how the block feature works in the near future.

After examining the tweet, it was explained that moving forward, all public tweets on Twitter X will be viewable by users you have previously blocked. However, they will still be unable to interact with these tweets—meaning they won’t be able to comment, like, repost, or engage in any other way.

Currently, the block feature is used by users to hide harmful or private information from the accounts they have blocked.

The reason for this change, according to Twitter X, is to make Elon Musk’s platform more transparent and reduce unwanted behavior on the platform.

The brief tweet from the Engineering team also mentioned that, alongside these changes, Twitter X is offering preventive measures to help users protect their posts from unwanted attention through the ‘Protect your Post’ feature in the settings.

However, this policy shift could introduce new challenges, as both Google and iOS have guidelines that require blocking features to completely block users and reduce unwanted content. This raises concerns about whether Twitter X could face repercussions, such as being removed from app stores. What will happen next?
