Is the software testing process becoming more manageable or increasingly challenging? Are testers leveraging advanced technologies to quicken product launch cycles, or are they hindered by manual procedures?
To gain insights into the state of software testing, Kobiton conducted a survey of 150 testers from companies with a minimum of 50 employees across various industries.
The results showed that software testers are increasingly relying on automation, driven by the aim to reduce testing expenses and enhance software quality and user experience.
According to the study conducted by Kobiton, 40% of the testers surveyed cited improving user experience as the primary reason for utilizing automation in software testing. Automation is becoming increasingly popular as it offers a more efficient way to conduct repetitive tests and enhance the performance of applications, compared to manual testing methods.
Use of automation in software testing has seen significant advancements and improvement over time.
The industry has come a long way, as indicated by the results of our recent study,” said Kevin Lee, CEO of Kobiton. “In the study we conducted two years ago, 50% of testers reported that their automation programs were new and only 76% were automating less than 50% of their tests. This year, however, nearly 100% of participating testers are using automation.
According to Kobiton’s study, automation experience is among the top three skills that testing managers seek in new hires.
Use of automation in software testing is a popular trend, with 34% of survey respondents indicating they use it for a balance of regression and new feature testing, according to Kobiton’s study.
According to the survey by Kobiton, automation has made software testing more efficient. Nearly half (47%) of the respondents stated that manual testing took 3-5 days before a product release, while automated testing could be completed in just 3-6 hours.
“The priority of testers, as stated in our 2022 study, was to enhance automation testing. It’s evident that automation is the future of the industry,” Lee stated.
