It’s hard to believe that three years have passed since *Subnautica: Below Zero* was released, and even longer since the original game launched in 2018. Unknown Worlds Entertainment, now under Krafton, has officially announced the existence of *Subnautica 2*.
Just like its predecessors, the latest installment will also be released early through the Early Access program. On its Steam page, the development team stated that they expect *Subnautica 2* to stay in Early Access for at least two to three years.
Considering the game is scheduled to launch in 2025, fans can anticipate that the full release might not happen until as late as 2028.
For those unfamiliar with the program, Early Access allows players to purchase and play a game while it is still in development. This helps developers adjust the game based on direct feedback from the players.
A New Planet Setting This Time
While the first two games were set on the same planet but at different times, *Subnautica 2* will take players to explore the oceans of a brand-new planet, featuring various new biomes and creatures to discover.
Another exciting feature is that players won’t have to explore this alien ocean alone anymore. Yes, the developers have confirmed that *Subnautica 2* will include a co-op mode for up to four players. This mode is expected to be available from the very beginning when the game launches in Early Access.
Personally, I’ve been diving into the *Subnautica* world since its Early Access in 2014. Long story short, the game amazed me by instilling a real sense of “fear of the unknown.”
